Why did my payment fail?

Why a payment might be declined, and what to try before ordering again. Includes what that pending amount on your account actually means.

Payments can fail for a few common reasons, most of which sit with your bank rather than with us.

Most common causes

  • Insufficient funds available on the card or account.

  • Incorrect card details: card number, expiry date or CVV entered incorrectly.

  • A bank security check, such as a 3D Secure or one-time pin prompt, that was not completed in time.

  • A payment gateway authorisation issue.

  • Your card is not enabled for online purchases, or has a daily online limit.

What you can try if your payment fails

  • Re-check every field on the card, especially the expiry date and CVV.

  • Watch for an approval prompt in your banking app and approve it promptly, as these often time out.

  • Try a different payment method, such as Apple Pay, Google Pay or Capitec Pay.

  • Contact your bank to confirm online purchases are enabled on the card.

Important

If a payment fails you may still see a pending amount on your account. This is usually a temporary authorisation hold, not a charge. Please do not attempt the same order many times, as each attempt can create another hold. Contact [email protected] if you are unsure whether your order went through.
